Habitual traffic offender who goes by “Worm” arrested for eluding police after embedding himself in dirt like a worm

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office has announced that a habitual traffic offender who goes by the nickname “Worm” has been arrested for eluding police and driving with a suspended, revoked, or canceled license. Roderick Phinizee was booked into the Martin County Jail after a reckless night on the road, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities claim Roderick spent a short time in Martin County before turning his Dodge Charger around and driving more than 125 mph through the streets. Deputies attempted to stop the driver, but he refused to pull over and continued straight for the interstate. Multiple road patrol units and Air1 were waiting for “Worm”.

Deputies deployed stop sticks to deflate the tires of  Phinizee’s car because they say his speed was becoming such a danger to other motorists. Once Phinizee’s vehicle was disabled, he allegedly bailed from the vehicle and fled on foot into a wooded area. Authorities say he attempted to embed himself in the dirt like a worm. Once Phinizee surrendered to deputies, he was arrested on multiple charges, including fleeing and eluding and driving with a suspended, revoked, or canceled license with knowledge.
