The Gresham Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting on Thursday evening. Officers with the Gresham Police Department responded to a report of a disturbance near the intersection of Southeast Orient Drive and Southeast Anderson Road just before 10 p.m. A person had been involved in multiple physical confrontations in that area, according to authorities.

The person was later identified as 34-year-old Austin Brand of Damascus. During the final confrontation, Brand was fatally shot and passed away at the scene. Gresham Police are reviewing the actions of those involved to determine whose actions were criminal and if any were justifiable self-defense.

The matter will later be reviewed by the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office. Detectives suspect others may have had contact with Brand in the Damascus area before the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the Gresham Police Department tip line at 503-618-2719.
