UPDATE:  Greenville Police Department identifies suspect who allegedly shot Jakell Hines in the 1500 block of Mekhi Road as 39-year-old Jarren Butts of Greenville. According to a social media post, Butts turned himself in this afternoon.

Butts has been remanded to the Washington County Regional Correctional Facility on a first-degree murder charge.

 

Greenville police responded to the 1500 block of Mekhi Road early Saturday morning on December 2, 2023, to investigate a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers found a 24-year-old male in front of a business suffering from an upper-body gunshot wound(s). Responding medics transported the victim to Delta Health Systems.

Jakell Hines later succumbed to his injuries.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with any information regarding the fatal shooting at Mekhi Road in Greenville, Mississippi should contact Crime Stoppers at 662-378-8477. Up to $2,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
