The Greene County Sherriff’s Office said two deputies were injured when attempting to apprehend a suspect last night. According to GCSO, deputies responded to an assault in progress on I-44 near exit 75. Authorities were informed that a motor vehicle accident had occurred and one of the drivers was attacking the other.
At the scene, deputies contacted 33-year-old Matthew Romesburg who allegedly began assaulting them. After a struggle with deputies, Romesburg was taken into custody. GCSO said one deputy received facial fractures and the other had an injury to the knee. The deputies were transported to a hospital for treatment.
Romesburg has been charged with Assault 2nd Degree – Special Victim, Assault 3rd Degree – Special Victim, Resisting/Interfering with Arrest for a Felony, Assault 3rd Degree, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. He is being held in the Greene County Jail with no bond.
