The Greeley Police Department has announced the arrest of 21-year-old Alberto Corona. GPD reports that its officers were on patrol in the area of 36th Avenue and 10th Street keeping an eye on a group of auto enthusiasts around 12:11 a.m. on September 30.
Around 60 people were standing outside of their vehicles. A vehicle reportedly drove by and fired several shots toward the crowd before fleeing the scene. Officers immediately followed the suspect vehicle and requested additional units to check on the victims.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle at 17th Avenue and the Highway 34 Bypass. GPD says the suspect vehicle fled south. An officer stopped and deployed stop sticks in the 1600 block of Highway 34. The tires of the suspect’s vehicle were flattened.
Around Highway 85 and 42nd Street, the suspect lost control and crashed into a power pole. GPD says officers detained 21-year-old Alberto Corona and 20-year-old Kimberly Barron. After being treated at an area hospital, Corona was booked.
He is charged with Attempted First Degree Murder, Vehicular Eluding, Driving While Revoked as a Habitual Traffic Offender, Previous Offender in Possession of a Weapon, Driving an Unregistered Motor Vehicle, and Displaying a Fictitious License Plate.
No one at the gathering was injured. Police say Kimberly Barron has not been charged in this incident.
