Grant County Sheriff’s Office arrests Chicago man for kidnapping and burglary

Grant County, Indiana – The Grant County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a Chicago man. According to a GCSO statement, deputies responded to the 3600 block of South Granton Place to an apartment complex for a domestic disturbance around 9:37 p.m. on January 19, 2025.

Authorities say deputies were informed by witnesses that 21-year-old Ronald D. Gayles had broken into the apartment threatening to kill others before forcing his estranged 19-year-old girlfriend to leave with him at gunpoint.

GCSO says deputies gathered enough information and evidence to obtain a warrant for the arrest of Gayles. Within hours, deputies tracked the suspect and victim to the Munster Community Hospital in Lake County, Indiana.

MPD officers located Gayles and took him into custody. The victim is being treated at the hospital. Gayles is charged with Burglary, Kidnapping, Criminal Confinement, Intimidation, Domestic Battery, Criminal Recklessness, and Residential Entry.

He is being held on a $300,000 cash or surety bond.
