A 30-year-old man is in police custody today, following an investigation into an arson that occurred on December 8, 2023, in the 1000 block of Grand Avenue. Kyle Hayes was remanded to the Mesa County Detention Facility on criminal mischief ($1 million), tampering with physical evidence, reckless endangerment, first-degree arson, second-degree burglary, and criminal possession of a financial device charges.

GJPD and GJFD were dispatched to the 1000 block of Grand Avenue before 10:00 p.m. on December 8, 2023, to investigate a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, officers determined an unoccupied apartment complex was on fire. The firefighters were able to extinguish the fire. Apparent signs of vandalism and extensive property damage were noted. No injuries were reported.

Grand Junction Police Department apprehended Hayes in the 2800 block of North Avenue on December 13, 2023.
