Gordon County Sheriff’s Office deputy shoots woman during domestic disturbance

A woman has been shot by a Gordon County Sheriff’s Office deputy during a domestic disturbance. The Gordon County Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies responded to a private residence on Erwin Hill Church Road near Sonoraville for a domestic disturbance just after midnight on August 16, 2024.

At the scene, responding GCSO deputies found a woman brandishing a handgun. The woman allegedly pointed the firearm at deputies multiple times as they were trying to communicate with her.

At some point during the encounter, a deputy shot the woman who subsequently surrendered. The woman was removed by an ambulance with a non-fatal gunshot wound. No deputies were injured during the incident.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the deputy-involved shooting.
