Gilbert Police officer involved in an officer-involved shooting with suspect wearing a ballistic vest

The Gilbert Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting. Around 2 p.m. on January 21, 2024, GPD officers responded to a report of a subject with a gun near Copper and Warner Roads. At the scene, officers located an adult male in a residential neighborhood near Greenfield and Knox Roads.

GPD said the subject exited the vehicle wearing a ballistic vest and armed with a handgun and rifle. The individual reportedly presented a threat and did not comply with commands leading to an officer-involved shooting. The subject was pronounced deceased at the scene.

No officers or residents were injured during the incident. GPD confirmed the shooting was recorded on body-worn camera.
