On October 29, 2023, The Remerton Police Department responded to The Pier Bar in Remerton at approximately 2:30 a.m. to investigate a report of a shooting. According to the report, the 21-year-old bartender and her co-workers were shutting down the bar around 2:00 a.m. About thirty minutes later, the victim and a co-worker were outside the bar when she was shot.

Responding medics transported the victim, identified as Brianna Long, to South Georgia Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Following an investigation, GBI linked the shooting to a dispute that occurred outside the bar.

On November 17, 2023, GBI released CCTV footage of two persons of interest in the fatal shooting.
