The GBI is currently investigating a shooting that occurred inside a home in Carrollton, Georgia on August 20. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office reports that it requested the GBI to investigate on August 20. One man was killed and one deputy was seriously injured in the incident.
CCSO reports that the preliminary information indicated that GBI agents and CCSO deputies were at a residence in the 300 block of Don Rich Drive around 8:30 a.m. on August 20, 2024. Authorities were executing a search warrant in connection to an ongoing GBI investigation.
CCSO deputies knocked on the door. 40-year-old Christopher Bly opened the door, according to authorities. Bly allegedly retreated into the residence, produced a handgun, and fired. Bly was struck and one deputy was struck.
Bly was pronounced deceased at the scene. The deputy remains in critical condition. CCSO says evidence suggests Bly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. GBI’s Atlanta Regional Office is handling the investigation.
Authorities say the original search warrant was carried out by agents with GBI’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit. Agents allegedly obtained devices containing child sexual abuse material.
