The George County Sheriff’s Office has identified the deputy slain in the line of deputy earlier today. Around 5:15 p.m. on January 4, 2024, a deputy was shot and killed in the line of duty on Highway 98 close to the intersection of Brushy Creek Road. GCSO said Deputy Jeremy Malone was fatally shot while conducting a traffic stop at the aforementioned location.

The suspect led law enforcement on a vehicle pursuit out of George County. Information obtained by GCSO indicates that the suspect was fatally shot by law enforcement at the end of the pursuit. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation will be investigating the matter.
