Gainesville Police makes three arrests in Pointe 23 Apartments homicide

The Gainesville Police Department has announced multiple arrests in connection to the recent Pointe 23 Apartments homicide. Following months of investigations, GPD detectives arrested three individuals on March 19, 2024. 14-year-old Mikhail Lawson, 15-year-old Kemeon Lee, and 25-year-old Dyquann Freeney were taken into custody and charged with Armed Robbery and Murder.

Freeney has also been charged with Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon. Just before 9 p.m. on February 19, 2024, GPD officers responded to reports of gunshots and an unresponsive male found inside a vehicle at the Pointe 23 Apartments at 740 Northeast 23rd Avenue.

At the scene, responding officers and EMS personnel confirmed the victim’s death who appeared to have suffered from a single gunshot wound. Follow-up investigations revealed that residents heard between three and five gunshots before the victim was discovered in his vehicle. Witnesses told detectives that three black males were seen fleeing the area and one was carrying a handgun following the shooting.
