Fresno County, California – The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office says an officer with the Sanger Police Department detained 41-year-old Samuel Botello Rodriguez at the Jack in the Box on Jensen Avenue in Sanger around 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
The officer identified the suspect as a wanted person. FCSO says the officer contacted Sheriff’s detectives who responded to the restaurant, took Rodriguez into custody, and booked him into the Fresno County Jail.
Rodriguez is facing charges of Attempted Murder and Burglary. FCSO says deputies responded to a residence in the 8100 block of East Belmont Avenue in Fresno around 7:30 p.m. on January 19, 2025.
At the scene, deputies reportedly found a woman who had been beaten and stabbed. The victim was taken to the hospital where she was treated and released.
Authorities allege that Rodriguez entered the home through an open garage door and unlocked door to the house. He allegedly confronted a woman who was alone. FCSO says Rodriguez attacked the woman without any provocation.
He allegedly punched the victim multiple times and stabbed her before fleeing. The victim locked herself in a room for safety. A family member returned home, found the injured woman, and dialed 911.
FCSO says the attack appears random and the victim does not know Rodriguez. Authorities say Rodriguez is a homeless man with an extensive criminal history. Rodriguez was currently on Post-Release Community Supervision.
He was fitted with a GPS ankle monitor but was not wearing it at the time of his arrest.
