Fremont Police announce arrest of shooting suspect for murder

The Fremont Police Department has announced the arrest of a suspect for murder. Around 9:45 a.m. on March 5, 2024, FPD Patrol Division and Special Operations Division members responded to a reported shooting in the area of Stevenson Boulevard and Albrae Street. FPD says two vehicles were involved and one had fled the scene. The other vehicle appeared to have been involved in an accident.

Officers determined that the driver was suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a nearby trauma center. On March 9, the victim succumbed to his injuries. Authorities identified 25-year-old Sylvester Carver as a potential suspect in the shooting. An arrest warrant was issued for Carver.

On March 13, 2024, the investigation led detectives to the 5000 block of Hartnett Avenue in Richmond, California. FPD’s Special Response Team responded to serve the arrest warrant for Carver and a search warrant for the residence. Around 7:15 p.m., Carver and others were contacted in a vehicle as they were leaving the residence. Carver was taken into custody without incident and booked on a charge of Murder.

After the case was presented to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Officer, Carver was charged with Murder, Attempted Murder, and two counts of Willful Discharge of a Firearm into an Occupied Vehicle.
