Freeport, Illinois – The Freeport Police Department said in a statement that its officers are investigating a shots fired incident that reportedly occurred in the 1000 block of West Smith Street.

Around 2:44 p.m. on January 20, FPD officers responded to the FHN Hospital for an 18-year-old male who walked in with a gunshot wound.

FPD says the victim advised he was walking in the 1000 block of West Smith Street when he encountered two other males in their teens. FPD says one was identified as a black male and the other was wearing a mask.

The males allegedly asked the victim to empty his pockets. The victim struck one of the suspects and began to run when he was shot in the arm.

The victim was treated at the hospital and released. FPD asks anyone with information to call the Police Department at 815-235-8222 or Crime Stoppers at 866-TIPSNOW.
