The Freeport Police Department announced on social media that it is investigating a shooting in the 500 block of West Broadway Street. Around 1:50 p.m. on January 18, 2024, Freeport Police Department officers responded to the aforementioned location for a report of gunshots being fired.

At the scene, officers found evidence that a gun had been discharged in the area. Dispatch was advised that a 21-year-old male gunshot victim had been dropped off at FHN Hospital. The man was hit in the leg by a fired projectile. He was treated and released from the hospital.

FPD does not believe the act was random and suspects it was gang-related.
