Former Chief Financial Officer of The Arc of Shelby County, an Alabama-based advocacy group for people with developmental disabilities, allegedly misappropriated funds from May 2022 through August 2023.

Cindy Massey of Pell City, Alabama utilized the stolen money to fund a Florida vacation, online and offline purchases, car repairs, rent on personal property, vet services, cosmetic surgery, and personal credit card payments.

Cindy Massey had an accomplice, her daughter, Jennifer Massey, 36, of Pell City. Both women have been charged with Theft of Property. Cindy Massey was booked and released after posting a $30,000 bond.

After avoiding police for over a month, Jennifer Massey was apprehended by US Marshals on November 29, 2023. Massey has been remanded to the Shelby County Jail on a no-bond status because of a probation violation.
