The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has announced the arrest of a former Nowata County Sheriff’s Deputy. OSBI reports that the Nowata County Sheriff’s Office requested its help to investigate an embezzlement case on January 25, 2018.
In 2018, the Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector’s Office found that six firearms were missing from the sheriff’s office. OSBI says evidence led its agents to the residence of former Nowata County Sheriff’s Deputy Thomas Jay Campbell.
A search warrant was served on the residence on June 26, 2024 and one of the missing firearms was located. On July 3, 2024, Campbell was arrested and booked on charges of Embezzlement. The investigation is ongoing.
