The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has announced a charge against 53-year-old John Heflin. On September 26, 2024, Heflin was charged with Criminal Solicitation of a Minor.

Following his arrest, Heflin was booked into the Kershaw County Detention Center. The Camden Military Academy issued a statement saying that CMA administration was notified of alleged inappropriate social media communication between a cadet and faculty member on September 16, 2024.

The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office and the school’s resource officer were immediately informed and the faculty member, Heflin, was terminated. KCSO says the case was given to SLED because of a conflict of interest due to the suspect being an elected official for a town in which it provides law enforcement services.
