Fleeing gang member on probation crashes and kills two innocent people

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office says a fleeing gang member caused a crash that claimed the lives of two innocent people. FCSO says 18-year-old Adam Canales has been arrested and booked into the Fresno County Jail on charges of Evading Police and Vehicular Manslaughter.

Authorities say Canales is also facing an infraction for driving with alcohol in his system and being under 21 years old. FCSO alleges that Canales is responsible for the deaths of two sisters, 25-year-old Mang Yang and 18-year-old Eliza Yang.

FCSO says its deputies were carrying out proactive patrols in southeast Fresno just before 10 p.m. on Wednesday. Those deputies reportedly witnessed a disturbance involving possible gang members near Verrue Avenue and Eighth Street.

FCSO says one of the men fled the scene in a white Chevy Tahoe and ran a stop sign. Authorities allege the driver, Adam Canales, refused to pull over when a deputy activated his lights and siren.

FCSO says the deputy pursued Canales for 27 seconds before seeing him crash through a fence and into a house. Canales allegedly fled from the crash on foot. Firefighters and EMS responded to check on individuals inside the home. Authorities say two women were killed as a result of the wrecked vehicle.

Around 10 p.m., deputies found Canales at a residence in the 4500 block of East Ball Avenue. He was taken to an area hospital for evaluation before being booked into jail. FCSO says Canales is a known gang member who is currently on probation for possession of a firearm.
