The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reports that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating a deputy-involved shooting.

Authorities say deputies carried out a traffic stop on a vehicle with an obscured tag on West Hillsborough Avenue and Elliot Drive in Tampa around 9:15 p.m. on November 16, 2024.

According to police, 26-year-old Deputy Jared Mincemeyer asked to see the suspect’s hands. The suspect reportedly showed his hands briefly.

Mincemeyer asked the suspect to exit the vehicle. At this point, the suspect allegedly reached a firearm. Police claim the suspect began to exit the vehicle with a firearm in his hand.

Authorities say Mincemeyer backed up before shooting the suspect who was pronounced deceased at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

According to authorities, Mincemeyer has no prior use of use and has been with HCSO since October 2022.
