The Fremont Police Department has arrested a suspect for robbery and attacking a restaurant worker with a hatchet. According to FPD, officers responded to a restaurant near Mission Boulevard and Warm Springs Boulevard around 12:15 p.m. on March 22, 2024. The caller reported that a male subject was yelling inside the restaurant and armed with a small hatchet.
While officers were responding to the scene, the reporting party explained that the male subject had struck an employee with the hatchet. The victim sustained a minor injury to the arm. The suspect fled the restaurant after stealing food. At the scene, responding officers located the suspect, who has been identified as 35-year-old Evin Sagastume, a short distance from the restaurant.
FPD says the hatchet was found nearby. Sagastume had previous arrests for assault with a deadly weapon and brandishing a weapon. The suspect is charged with Robbery, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Criminal Threats.
