The Espanola Police Department was involved in an officer-involved shooting on Sunday evening. EPD reports that officers responded to the Walgreens at 1115 North Riverside Drive for a stolen vehicle parking on the north side of the building.
As two officers approached the vehicle, the driver allegedly attempted to flee the area. The stolen vehicle hit the building, another vehicle, and one officer. At least one officer opened fire using their duty weapon.
The driver of the stolen vehicle suffered a gunshot wound. The suspect was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The injured officer was treated before being released from the scene.
EPD says the two involved officers were placed on standard administrative leave. The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau responded to investigate the events leading up to the officer-involved shooting.
