Elmore Taylor in custody in connection to shooting of juvenile in Culpeper

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office has taken a shooting suspect into custody. On July 24, 2024, NCSO took Elmore “EJ” Taylor Jr. into custody. At this time, Taylor is being held without bond at the Newton County Jail. He will be extradited to Virginia to stand trial.

Just after 9 p.m. on April 16, 2024, Culpeper Police Department officers responded to the area of Vantage Place and Highview Court for a shooting. At the scene, officers located a juvenile victim suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

CPD says the suspect, Taylor Jr., had fled the area. Despite an extensive search, Taylor was not apprehended. Authorities later obtained information suggesting that Taylor had fled Culpeper.

Taylor is facing multiple charges, including Shooting with Intent to Maim or Kill, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, Discharge of a Firearm in a Public Place, and more. Taylor also has outstanding unrelated felony charges through the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office.
