An El Paso man has been arrested for Cruelty to Non-Livestock Animal (torture) after allegedly abandoning a dog in a desert area. The El Paso Police Department reports that its animal cruelty investigation unit was made aware of a video of a malnourished French Bulldog on June 18, 2024.
Investigators identified the owner of the dog as Marco Trent Butler. EPD says it was later determined that Butler had abandoned the dog in a desert area. The dog was transported to an area vet for assessment.
Investigators learned that the dog was severely emaciated, malnourished, and dehydrated. The doctor believed that the dog’s physical condition occurred over two to three months. The dog was turned over to MuttLove Dog Rescue.
On July 10, Butler was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a $45,000 bond.
