El Paso Police apprehended 15 and 17-year-old after stolen vehicle crashed into patrol car

According to the El Paso Police Department, vehicle burglars rammed a stolen car into a police patrol car. In the early morning of November 26, 2023, officers responded to a call of a burglary of a vehicle in progress, according to an El Paso Press Department press release. Upon arrival, officers reportedly found a 15-year-old male wearing a ski mask in the parking lot. Police say the 15-year-old ran from officers when they attempted to investigate.

Officers followed the suspect in a patrol car. 17-year-old Moises Isaia Escalante allegedly accelerated and rammed a Hyundai Sonata into the driver-side door of the patrol car in an attempt to escape from police. Police say officers were able to exit the vehicle and apprehend both suspects.

Authorities say the Hyundai had been stolen earlier from a different location. 17-year-old Escalante, of Chaparral, New Mexico, was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and booked into the El Paso County Jail The 15-year-old suspect was charged with evading arrest and or detention. The 15-year-old was turned over to the Juvenile Probation Department.

Officers were not injured in the incident.
