The Modesto Police Department is investigating an early morning double shooting. Around 9:30 a.m. on December 24, 2023, patrol officers responded to the area of Prescott and Mt Vernon after receiving a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found two adult subjects suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to area hospitals for treatment.

Authorities believe there was an outstanding subject in the area so a search was conducted. Officers learned that the subject fled the area before their arrival. Modesto Police Department Violent Crime Unit detectives responded to assume control of the investigation.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a physical altercation between two groups who may have known each other. It is believed this is an isolated incident.
