Driver fleeing from police causes crash that kills one and injures two others

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating an incident that killed one and injured two. TCSO says a reckless driver was fleeing law enforcement when they drove on the wrong side of the road and struck another vehicle.

The incident started in East Lacey around 4 p.m. on Saturday. The suspect reportedly approached multiple residents asking for fentanyl. When one resident asked the suspect to leave, the suspect allegedly accelerated toward the residence causing them to flee.

A deputy responded to the scene and spoke to the residents. One witness provided authorities with crucial details about the suspect and her vehicle. Deputies were able to identify the vehicle which had been stolen from King County.

Later, a deputy found the vehicle driving recklessly in the oncoming lane of Pacific Avenue Southeast while passing other vehicles through no-passing zones. TCSO says the suspect refused to pull over leading to a pursuit.

In Olympia city limits, Olympia Police Department officers used spike strips to slow the suspect. The suspect eventually crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle head-on.

A passenger of the victim vehicle was killed and two others were injured. The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended. The suspect, who is not being named, has been charged with Murder 2nd Degree, two counts of Vehicular Assault, Attempting to Elude a Police Vehicle, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Felony Hit and Run, Assault, and Driving on a Suspended License.
