Detroit Police announce charges against 17-year-old Brandon Butler in fatal shooting of 23-year-old woman

A 17-year-old from Farmington Hills is behind bars in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred on July 13. The Detroit Police Department reports that the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office charged 17-year-old Brandon Butler in the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old Detroit woman.

Butler will be tried as an adult. Around 4:45 p.m. on July 13, 2024, DPD officers responded to the intersection of Cardoni Street and Robinwood Street for a report of a shooting. At the scene, officers found the victim on the grass with a gunshot wound to the back.

The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities allege that Butler had been involved in an altercation with the victim. It escalated and Butler allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot the victim before fleeing the scene.

Butler is charged with First-Degree Murder and Felony Firearm.
