Department of Justice investigating Riverside County Sheriff’s Office deputy-involved shooting

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that one of its deputies was involved in a deputy-involved shooting. The Department of Justice is leading the investigation into the shooting. Around 1:10 a.m. on June 11, 2024, a Lake Mathews Sheriff’s Station deputy was in the 1000 block of West 6th Street in Corona when he tried to contact multiple subjects.

The subjects fled on foot and were pursued by the deputy. When the deputy turned the corner of a building, a male suspect allegedly lunged at him leading to a fight. While the deputy was struggling with the male suspect, a female allegedly assaulted the deputy.

A deputy-involved shooting occurred. The female suspect was struck by gunfire. The deputy continued struggling with the male suspect who tried to take the deputy’s firearm. Good Samaritans arrived and helped detain the suspect.

The female suspect was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced deceased. The deputy was transported to an area hospital with moderate injuries. The male suspect suffered minor injuries.

In an update, RCSO said that the Riverside Sheriff’s Force Investigations Detail assumed control of the investigation into the assault on the deputy. In accordance, 33-year-old Eric Nourani, of San Diego County, was arrested on charges of Murder, Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer, Mayhem, and Resisting an Officer with Violence.

The identity of the female is being withheld at this time. No other details are available.
