The Delaware State Police has announced it is investigating a homicide in Wilmington after a Texas man was found deceased in a vehicle on Saturday night. Troopers responded to the Eagle Tobacco Shop at 3505 Miller Road in Wilmington for a report of a shooting around 7:17 PM on December 9, 2023.
Upon arrival, officers found indications of a shooting but no victim was located. According to authorities, the preliminary investigation determined that the vehicle was parked in the parking lot of Eagle Tobacco Shop. A dark-colored SUV entered and parked. An occupant of the SUV fired several rounds at the victim before fleeing in an unknown direction.
The victim drove to the P.S. Dupont Middle School where he crashed through a fence before the vehicle came to rest on the school property. Once police found the victim, they noticed he was suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. The victim is only being identified as a 22-year-old man from Texas.
Authorities say he passed away at the scene. The victim’s name is being withheld until the next of kin can be notified.
