DeLand Police Department identifies victim of homicide found in the trunk of the suspect’s car

The DeLand Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred around 7:06 a.m. on January 18, 2024. According to a media release from DPD, units responded to a home in the 100 block of South Frankfort Avenue in reference to a suspicious incident. Police canvassed the area and found a body. A suspect was taken into custody.

In a later update, DPD identified the suspect in the case as Travis McBride who is charged with First Degree Murder. McBride is being held in the Volusia County Branch Jail without bond. The victim has been identified as Clinton Dorsey.

According to DPD, the preliminary investigation indicated that Travis McBride shot Dorsey in the 100 block of Frankfort Avenue. Responding units found the victim’s body in the trunk of McBride’s car. Detectives say the suspect and victim were known to each other and had been involved in an ongoing dispute.
