Homicide Branch detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting in Southwest DC. Around 4:25 a.m. on December 26, 2023, First District officers responded to the 600 block of Maryland Avenue Southwest in reference to a shooting.

Once officers reached the scene, they found a man suffering from gunshot wound injuries. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. At this time, the victim’s identity is being withheld. DC police have released a picture of the suspect captured by nearby surveillance cameras.
