The DC Metropolitan Police Department has announced the arrest of a suspect allegedly involved in a shooting in Southeast DC. Around 1:32 p.m. on January 19, 2024, a victim was approached by two suspects at the intersection of A Street and 16th Street Southeast. One suspect brandished a handgun and shot the victim.

MPD said the suspects searched the victim’s pockets before fleeing the scene. The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Fourth District officers later learned of an adult male who had entered a local hospital with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Detectives identified the man as one of the suspects in the shooting. On January 19, 2024, 19-year-old Christ Tchakounte of Hyattsville, Maryland was arrested and charged with Assault with Intent to Rob while Armed.
