The Metropolitan Police Department has released a statement regarding the destroyed property and burglarized businesses throughout the city. MPD says a group of individuals decided to destroy property and burglarize businesses throughout the city.
The damage was primarily in the City Center and Georgetown areas as well. The group targeted a store in the H Street Corridor, a store in Logan Circe, and a store north of Columbia Heights.
MPD says it increased police resources in the areas impacted. As a result of the overnight incidents, MPD is investigating six burglaries and six destruction of property offenses. Five individuals have been arrested for burglary and fleeing from law enforcement.
Detectives are still investigating the incidents. MPD says it will maintain an increased police presence throughout the city as well. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Real Time Crime Center at 202-727-9099.
