The Office of the State Attorney for the Twentieth Judicial Circuit announced that a man had been sentenced to life in prison for child molestation. On the afternoon of December 18, 2023, David Antonio Alvarenga Rodriguez was sentenced to life in prison for Lewd or Lascivious Molestation Child Less than 12 Years of Age. He was also sentenced to life in prison on each of four counts of Familial or Custodial Sexual Battery.

Rodriguez was sentenced to 15 years for Lewd or Lascivious Molestation Child 12 Years of Age or Older but Less Than 16 Years of Age. He is also a registered Sexual Predator. Following a trial in Lee County in November, Rodriguez was found guilty as charged on all counts and all special findings.

In May 2020, the crime was reported to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office when the victim informed an adult about past sexual abuse by the defendant. The abuse happened at a residence in Fort Myers. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office carried out an investigation that led to the arrest of Rodriguez.
