Danville Police Department involved in officer-involved shooting on Wednesday

The Danville Police Department was involved in an officer-involved shooting on Wednesday in the 500 block of Apollo Avenue. Just after 4 p.m., officers responded to the area of Apollo Avenue for a report of a suspicious male who was described as a former employee of a business located on Riverside Drive. Officers were told the man may be armed.

Officers found the male subject off Apollo Avenue in the parking lot of Westwood Middle School and attempted to negotiate with the armed, suicidal male for at least 25 minutes, according to DPD. Authorities say the male drew a handgun from his waistband and fired the gun in a direction away from officers before pointing it at them.

Officers discharged their weapons hitting the subject. First aid was immediately rendered before the subject was transported to SOVAH Hospital Danville where he is receiving treatment. DPD is not releasing any names at this time. The names of the officers will be released in three days.
