The Concord Police Department has announced an arrest in connection to a shooting at Danny’s Place. CPD reports that 26-year-old Deamonte Leeshawn Howard has been charged with Voluntary Manslaughter and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
The charges are linked to a shooting that happened on Thursday morning outside of Danny’s Place. Around 8:45 a.m. on August 22, 2024, CPD officers responded to reports of a shooting in the parking lot of Danny’s Place at 300 Church Street North.
Police say one suspect fled on foot but was apprehended. The suspect was reportedly later identified as Deamonte Leeshawn Howard. The gunshot victim has been identified as 24-year-old Nijel La’te Hitchcock.
CPD says Hitchcock got into the backseat of a vehicle that left the scene. The vehicle crashed into another vehicle and a utility pole near the intersection of Church Street and Winecoff Avenue. Hitchcock succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
It is believed that the shooting was not a random act and the victim and suspect knew one another. Howard is being held without bond at the Cabarrus County Jail.
