A 23-year-old woman was fatally shot on Thursday night. The Chula Vista Police Department is currently investigating the fatal shooting. CVPD reports that its officers responded to the 200 block of C Street for a woman shot around 11 p.m. on July 18, 2024.

At the scene, responding officers found a woman and man off the roadway just west of the Woodland Hills Apartments at 295 C Street. The woman had suffered a gunshot wound and was bleeding heavily.

The 23-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries. CVPD believes she was unsheltered and living in Chula Vista. CVPD says the preliminary information indicates that a shooting occurred in the field behind the apartments where homeless individuals are known to reside.

No suspect information is publicly available at this time. CVPD does not believe there is a threat to the public.
