Child sexual assault suspect in custody after returning to the United States

A 55-year-old child sexual assault suspect is in custody after returning to the United States from Mexico. The Cameron County Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies responded to a residence in San Benito for a past Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child on February 21, 2020.

At the scene, the responding deputy spoke to the complainant who said her daughter made an allegation of sexual assault against 55-year-old Armando Alvarado. An investigator collected enough evidence to support the allegations against the suspect.

Warrants were secured for Aggravated Sexual Assault of Child, Indecency with a Child, Continuous Sexual Abuse of Young Child or Children, and Online Solicitation of a Minor. The suspect had fled to Mexico.

In an update, CCSO said Cameron County Crime Stoppers received an anonymous tip that Alvarado was in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Since July 29, 2024, CCSO investigators have been negotiating the time and place of his surrender.

On July 31, 2024, Alvardo agreed to turn himself in at the Gateway Port of Entry in Brownsville, Texas. He has since been taken into custody.
