The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a homicide after a missing 15-year-old was found deceased. CMPD reports that detectives with the Homicide Unit and Missing Person’s Unit are investigating a homicide in the Steele Creek Division.
On September 4, the family of 15-year-old Anthony Smith reported him missing. CMPD’s Missing Persons Unit carried out an extensive searching to no avail. On September 10, the Missing Persons Unit responded to the 600 block of Silverleaf Road where they found human remains.
The remains were transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office. On September 11, authorities officially identified the remains as belonging to Anthony Smith. The North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office also determined that the victim died from a gunshot wound and ruled the death a homicide.
