In a media release, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said its Homicide Unit is investigating a homicide in the 15700 block of Country House Street in the Steele Creek Division. Just before 10 p.m. on February 14, 2024, officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call at the aforementioned location.

At the scene, officers found a female victim with a gunshot wound. The victim succumbed to her injuries at the scene. CMPD said a person of interest was located in the area after the incident. Detectives are not looking for any other persons at this time.

CMPD does not believe this was a random act of violence.
