The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has identified the victim of a recent homicide. Around 12 p.m. on March 12, 2024, Steele Creek Division officers responded to the 11600 block of Red Hickory Lane for an assault with a deadly weapon.

At the scene, responding officers found an adult male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. In a later update, CMPD identified the victim as 23-year-old Shemar Dealvin Hayes. Detectives are asking for anyone with video footage of the incident to contact 704-432-TIPS and ask to speak to Detective Akers.
