Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer shot during traffic stop on East Arrowood Road

Update – CMPD reports that its officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon on East Arrowood Road around 7:25 p.m. on Sunday. Around 7:28 p.m., Real Time Crime Center detectives identified a possible suspect who may have been involved in the prior call.

Officers initiated a traffic stop in the 200 block of East Arrowood Road around 7:29 p.m. when a suspect allegedly produced a handgun leading to an exchange of gunfire. At 7:30 p.m., officers issued an urgent call for service.

CMPD says the preliminary information indicates that one officer was struck and transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. A second officer was taken to the hospital for precautionary measures.

The suspect was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Authorities say a firearm was recovered at the scene.
