Charleston Police investigating two fatal shootings on Friday

Update – Charleston Police have arrested a suspect in connection to a homicide on Nassau Street on July 5, 2024. CPD reports that its detectives identified 23-year-old Terrance Michael Timothy McKelvey as the suspect in the shooting.

On July 8, 2024, McKelvey was taken into custody. He is charged with Murder and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime. Additional charges are expected.

Original – The Charleston Police Department responded to two fatal shootings on July 5, 2024. CPD officers responded to a residence on Nassau Street for a reported shooting just after 1 a.m. on July 5. CPD says officers found an individual suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by Charleston County EMS. Just after 11 p.m., an officer in the area of the Bridgeview Apartment complex heard multiple gunshots. Additional officers responded to the scene.

Three victims were found and medical aid was immediately provided. An adult male victim suffered a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene. A second adult victim and a teenage victim were transported to an area hospital with gunshot wounds.

The teenage victim has been released from the hospital. The adult victim is still hospitalized. CPD does not believe the shootings are connected. Both incidents reportedly stemmed from verbal altercations that turned deadly.
