The Houston Police Department has announced that the charges against 30-year-old Yaquelin Artiga-Rosales have been upgraded following the passing of her brother. Artiga-Rosales was initially charged with aggravated assault of a family member, but the charge has since been updated to murder.

Artiga-Rosales is charged in the shooting of her 26-year-old brother who was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The victim passed away from his injuries on January 10, 2024. Houston Police Department Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detective M. Deleon reported that Artiga-Rosales shot her brother before calling 911 to tell police she was responsible for the shooting.

Once HPD officers reached the scene, they detained Artiga-Rosales and recovered the weapon used in the shooting.
