Chaplain arrested by Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office for allegedly sexually assaulting woman in hospice

A Chaplain has been arrested by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office for sexually assaulting an elderly woman in hospice. SCSO reports that Arthur Apgar of Placer County was arrested in connection to a sexual assault investigation by SCSO’s Sexual and Elder Abuse Bureau on August 8, 2024.

SCSO says the victim is an elderly woman who resides in a care facility where Apgar worked as a hospice chaplain at the time of the alleged assault. Apgar is charged with four counts of Sexual Battery against a Person who is Seriously Disabled or Medically Incapacitated.

After being booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail, Apgar posted bail and was released. He is scheduled to appear in court on August 12. Detectives believe there could be other victims.
