Chandler Police Department shoots domestic violence suspect at hotel

The Chandler Police Department announced its officers had shot a domestic violence suspect. Around 11:30 p.m. on March 22, 2024, CPD officers responded to a motel at 7475 West Chandler Boulevard for a domestic violence call involving a man and an adult female victim. Hotel staff phoned police on the victim’s behalf to say she was being held against her will at the location.

At the scene, a two-man unit located the suspect in the southwest corner of the parking lot. CPD says the suspect produced a gun and immediately fired multiple shots at officers as they were exiting their patrol vehicle. Another officer arrived to assist. Two of the officers returned fire hitting the suspect in the lower part of the body.

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital where is in stable condition. None of the officers were struck by gunfire. The victim received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. CPD says investigators are still investigating the events leading up to the initial 911 call. 32-year-old Cody Charles Long of Phoenix is still hospitalized.

Once he is released from the hospital, he will be booked on multiple charges, including Aggravated Assault Strangulation, Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, and more.
