The Tulsa Police Department has announced a conviction against a suspect who was charged with two counts of first-degree murder. According to a social media post from the Tulsa Police Department, officers responded to a shooting at the Rudisill Library at 1520 North Hartford as well as the nearby QuikTrip at Pine and Peoria.
Homicide Detectives say that Carlton Gilford walked into the library. Once inside, he walked up behind a man sitting at a desk and shot him in the back of the head. The victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries. The victim was later identified as Lundin Hathcock.
After the library shooting, Gilford reportedly went to the QuikTrip. Inside the store, he shot another male victim in the back of the head. Once the victim fell to the ground, Gilford shot him again. The victim at the QuikTrip passed away at the scene. The victim was later identified as James McDaniel.
Once officers reached the scene, they found Gilford standing outside the store. He reportedly admitted to shooting two people. Gilford was charged with two counts of 1st Degree Murder, two counts of Shooting With Intent to Kill, and Malicious Intention/Harassment (Hate Crime Charge).
On November 7, 2023, Carlton Gilford pleaded guilty to all charges. On December 18, 2023, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
